Darla Jane

I'm Darla Jane Thornock, a freelance illustrator who has been creating professionally since 2018. My path has always moved between the page and the wider world of visual storytelling: since 2019 I have also worked in set and wardrobe design, an experience that shaped how I think about character, costume, texture and the way an image fills a space.

My practice centers on editorial fashion illustration, figurative portraiture and character design. I work in expressive ink line work, oil and watercolor, choosing each medium for what it brings, whether that is the speed and confidence of a single ink line, the depth of oil, or the softness of a watercolor wash. My themes return to the human figure, fashion and attitude, classical forms, playful characters and small, everyday moments.

What makes my work distinctive is the balance between bold, graphic line and open space, and a mix of elegance, humor and warmth that lets each piece feel both stylish and personal on a wall. You can see more of my work at https://darlajaneart.github.io.
